The first major project of greenventory’s municipal heat planning is completed
After almost two years of work, the heating plan for the district of Lörrach is ready. All 35 municipalities in the district have joined forces for this purpose and identified a joint concept for a climate-neutral supply of heat. The first concrete measures are now to follow.
The road from the kick-off to the formulation of the next stages was long. The first step on the agenda was the development of a valid data basis. As with all projects, it is a high priority to work cleanly here in municipal heat planning. Our software bundles data from various sources and makes it available on a platform that can be used by all stakeholders. The data sources include, for example, satellite images, information from the census, climate data, data from network operators, municipal utilities and local authorities, and – quite classically – records from chimney sweeps. At the moment, only greenventory’s software can provide a data basis of this depth.
Municipal heat planning is one of the central tools for a successful energy transition. The heat consumption in residential and non-residential buildings must be covered in a climate-friendly way in the future. With the help of municipal heat planning, potentials are determined and suitable areas for heat networks as well as possibilities for decentralized heat supply are identified.
The example of Lörrach is special because the heat planning was carried out for the entire district. This includes three large district towns and 32 cities and communities. With many actors, the planning is more extensive, but to discover synergy effects, larger areas are more helpful. To this end, the consortium with endura Kommunal and Ifok held numerous workshops to involve the public as well as key stakeholders and identify measures. For example, waste heat from the chemical plant in Rheinfelden in the south can also be used beyond the city limits. It is also important to note that local conditions and legal regulations can change at any time. Therefore, an adaptability of the data is extremely important. With greenventory’s software, you can have changes made in real time. Planning – even of different scenarios – becomes possible within a few clicks. This is a huge advantage for all parties involved in the project.
An article of the Badische Newspaper from 19.11.2022 picks up the topic.
